I love this country!
I’m sitting in the shade of this church, beside a graveyard, listening to crazy Portuguese music being blasted across the countryside. I don’t know why. The folk tending graves don’t look too happy.
It seems to be some sort of festa. A poster says it’s for ‘Nossa Senhora da Expectação’ (Our Lady of Expectation).
The chap playing the tunes is from Radio Luz, which I assume means light. Perhaps the words are inspirational?
I think it sounds bonkers. Like the accordion band I saw in Barcelos – Minhotos Marotos – the woman’s voice was mad screechy. I thought she was just a bad – although excellently cool – singer. Perhaps it’s just the Portuguese way?
