In a speech he made some months ago Alex Salmond said, quite rightly, that he was proud Scotland was moving towards independence without the need for bloodshed.
It is a gentle, civilised revolution and there’s no reason it should be otherwise. Despite what they say in Westminster, Scotland is not bound to England by any strange or mystical force. It is nothing but a political union, forged by treaty, which should be a simple, painless thing to dissolve. But like any break-up, we’re going to need to sit down and sort out the record collection afterwards… in a manner of speaking. Who gets what and so forth.
Personally, I’d be happy with a quickie divorce – we’ll just take the natural resources we came with and be off, thank you very much…
