The Daily record posted this item about Bannockburn High School asking pupils to discuss whether William Wallace was a freedom fighter – or a terrorist!
Head teacher James McParland said: “The pupils are asked to take account of the political context of people’s actions and decide whether they believe they were a terrorist or freedom fighter.
“In reference to William Wallace they are also informed that he was considered at the time to be a terrorist by those opposed to Scottish independence.”
If Mr McParland’s statement has been accurately reported then I’d honestly like to see him sacked.
“…those opposed to Scottish independence” – were the english who were at that time invading the sovereign nation of Scotland. Wallace was not a terrorist – in the same way he could not have committed the treason he was executed for. He was defending his country against aggressors in a time of war!
To be honest, if the kids hadn’t been “informed that he was considered at the time to be a terrorist by those opposed to Scottish independence”, I’d applaud this as an interesting and useful exercise for the kids – but this one sentence entirely twists the facts and renders this little more than unionist brainwashing of Scottish kids.
Shame on you Bannockburn High School!
