Here’s a wonderfully sweet and simple illustration of how to support a loved one suffering from depression – ‘support’ being the operative word.
Try to make them feel safe and show them that you love them. That may be all you can do – but it’s a LOT!
You probably can’t ‘fix’ them or make them feel better but letting them know they have your support could go some way to making them feel somewhat less utterly awful and alone.
I only ever experienced this kind of support for brief and occasional periods. Even that felt like a shining beacon in the darkness.
I understand that depression may look scary and confusing from the outside. Try to imagine how terrifying it feels on the inside.
